  • Students receive three attempts at every weekly quiz provided. If a student struggles with taking quizzes, we suggest the student try the first attempt using natural memory to reveal recall. If not satisfied, a student can try a second attempt using the Student Reader as a guide (to practice accessing information—and learn while doing it!) A student could then try a third attempt to see if the open book experience was helpful. Regardless of the order of attempts, or your philosophy of “second chances”, the system (by default) will save the best of the three attempts.

  • We feel the video lectures are a great addition to a family enjoying The Mystery of History together and wanting more from the author. (The parent/teacher assumes the role of overseer with assignments from the Companion Guide and grading.) In contrast, we feel the self-paced course is a good fit for a highly independent student without much parent/teacher involvement. (The author pre-picked daily work assignments and the system automatically grades quizzes and tests.) Both options benefit students by the content of the lectures; both options can help students looking to earn a high school credit. But the self-paced course has the added value of an instructional learning platform for students needing or wanting direction and structure with little to no parent oversight.

  • Yes! We value sibling participation, so we’ve reduced our sibling rate to $97 after the full payment of one student. (Students will commonly share materials.)

    1. The Mystery of History Volume III Student Reader (with a digital Companion Guide.
    2. Rand McNally’s Historical Atlas.
    3. Rand McNally’s Know Geography World Atlas. All are available on our website.
  • No, because some families will already own their materials. But we offer a 10% discount coupon code off the sale prices of required materials on our website. (The code is provided upon registration.)

  • Students are notified of enrollment 1-5 days upon payment and registration. The 18-month clock begins to tick upon enrollment. If delayed enrollment is needed, just ask! Contact us at info@themysteryofhistory.com.

  • No. The author is Protestant by faith but does not degrade the Roman Catholic Church. She shines light on faithful men and women in all realms of Christendom.

  • No, not exactly. While The Mystery of History Volumes III and IV both contain some American history, we don’t advertise the volumes as replacements for students seeking a high school credit in American history. At the same time, an experienced teacher will use our third and fourth volumes as a spine for American history and add accordingly to create their own American history credit for high school. We leave that to you using additional resources.

  • There’s no wrong order to teaching American history, but we feel that an outside course in American history fits well between our third and fourth volume because the bloodshed of the Reformation in Europe (found in Volume III) helps students grasp the drive and determination of America’s founders to break the shackles and persecution of a monarchial-run state church.

Volume IV

We have two online options for our Volume IV students:

  • No. Like our Student Readers, the videos do not contain overly graphic images of the dead and dying that suffered in the Holocaust. Of course, history contains lots of disturbing images, so viewer discretion is always advised.

  • No, not exactly. • If you had to choose one volume for your high schooler as their world history credit, we suggest Volume IV because we feel the contents of modern history (1708 to 2014) helps explain today’s headlines and illuminates the dangers of the “isms” of history (ie. socialism, communism, Nazism, totalitarianism, fascism, Darwinism, Marxism, etc.)
