Filling the Rooms of Home Education: Stair Step Subjects vs. Living Subjects

Following the word picture of a well-built house, home education needs 1) a strong foundation, 2) a working frame, and 3) multiple rooms to fill. Are we filling the rooms of home education? And what do we fill them with? Knowledge! Join me as we go through “Filling the Rooms of Home Education.” (This is Part 3 of my Proverbs 24: 3-4 analogy.) In this episode, I will share the benefits of categorizing academics into stair-step subjects and living subjects to fill your homeschool with “all precious and pleasant riches.”

In today’s episode, we will cover two different categories: stair step subjects and living subjects. We will also discuss the importance of distinguishing between the two categories where I will share seven different benefits!

In Episode #3 of this podcast, I covered the foundation – focusing on a biblical worldview of education. If that’s a new concept to you, go back and listen to that one. It’s literally foundational. In Episode #5, we talked about building the frame. as in how to get practical things done that help you run your home, like dishes, laundry, and errands; if you’re struggling on that front, you’re not alone, but go back for a few helpful hints.

But it’s time now in Episode 7 for me to wrap up this three-part word picture with the verse: “by knowledge, the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” From the standpoint of home education, that knowledge is the culmination of your academic subjects! So, let’s talk about them.
