The Mystery of History Volume III—Companion Guide

$29.95$43.95

All of our hardback volumes come with a one-time download code (in the front inside cover of the Student Reader) for a digital Companion Guide* loaded with curriculum for all ages! But, if you prefer paper pages in a binder, or the code has been used, this is the product you’re looking for.

*Before you add this product to your cart, please consider the variables listed below (ie. Format, Condition, Edition.) This is a tricky point because in September 2023, Bright Ideas Press released a NEW Second Edition of our Volume III Companion Guide! (Don’t be confused! The Student Reader is still in its First Edition; only the Companion Guide was updated.) The Second Edition offers you an improved format, updated activities, revised mapping exercises, new literature ideas, etc. We recommend the Second Edition (as a PDF or in paper format) UNLESS you’re in a group that is using the First Edition.  The editions are different enough by page number, activity names, mapping exercises, etc. that participants will want to be in the same edition.

Our Student Reader offers you accurate Renaissance/Reformation history from a biblical worldview; our accompanying Companion Guide (in digital format or three-hole punched paper*) offers you Renaissance history curriculum for all ages that includes:

  • Pretests
  • Activities for Younger, Middle, and Older Students
  • Review work (Memory Cards, timeline prompts, mapping exercises, quizzes, etc)
  • Literature lists and more

*Our paper Companion Guide is three-hole punched and not bound, thus it requires a 2-3” binder. (Binder not included.)

  • Depending on the date of your original purchase, we will do our best, case by case, to help bridge the gap between the release of the First and Second Edition Companion Guide. Reach out to us at info@themysteryofhistory.com.

  • Yes. These products contain the same content (unless you’re in two different editions. We have a First and Second Edition of the Companion Guide.) We simply offer both digital and paper for your convenience. Some families prefer paper pages in a binder to easily find what they’re looking for. Others prefer the digital format for the ease of printing multiple pages of something like a Word Search. Though rare, some families purchase both for the value that each one offers.

  • Yes. While we feel the Student Reader is a nice visual addition, some families will work through Volume III by audiobook only. In that case, the Companion Guide (First or Second Edition) will offer those families a wide assortment of curriculum to enhance their studies. In rare instances, some assignments in the Companion Guide, and mapping exercises, will be easier with a Student Reader in hand, but these can be skipped without diminishing the overall value of the Companion Guide.

  • Most families share one Companion Guide, digital or paper, because under our single family license, you have the right to print additional pages for multiple students. Though rare, some families would rather not print anything at all and in that case will choose a paper version for every student in the family.

  • When Volume III was first released in 2008, the Student Reader and Companion Guide were offered as separate purchases. So, some old books, still in circulation, won’t have a code on the inside cover. (It also means you paid less for it.) To remedy the situation, we suggest you purchase the separate Companion Guide in digital or paper format. It’s your choice. (We recommend that you choose the Second Edition, for the best and most recent work of the author.)

  • TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS for PDFs:

If you are asked for a password to open one of our PDFs, your computer is probably trying to open the PDF with something other than Adobe Reader. (You don’t need a password for our files!) To avoid this issue, download the most current version of Adobe Reader (https://get.adobe.com/reader) also called “Acrobat Reader.” (We suggest the “free” version; there’s no need for the pro version to operate our files.) Once installed, open the PDF file from within Adobe Reader. If you are asked if you want Adobe Reader to be your default PDF viewer, we recommend you say “yes.”

If your files appear incomplete, follow the steps above to make sure you open them in Adobe Reader (not “Preview” on a MAC.) Large files and collections of files may require you to click on one of the buttons on the home screen to select the page you need.
